President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has posthumously awarded the national honor of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) to the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Taoreed Lagbaja. The award was presented during his funeral at the National Cemetery in Mogadishu, Abuja, on Friday, November 15.
In his tribute, President Tinubu described General Lagbaja as a trusted advisor and a man of decisive action, always placing the nation’s interests and the welfare of his subordinates above all else. “His legacy of service will be cherished forever,” Tinubu said. “As a symbol of our enduring gratitude, I have conferred the posthumous honor of CFR upon him.”
The president also praised Lagbaja as one of his most outstanding appointments, noting his deep faith in Nigeria’s armed forces. “Though we mourn his loss, we celebrate his life. We must recommit ourselves to the values of service, courage, and sacrifice he embodied. General Taoreed Lagbaja’s name will forever be remembered among Nigeria’s military greats.”
Tinubu further commended Lagbaja’s understanding of the military’s vital role in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy and highlighted his dedication to the well-being of those under his command.
