The defamation case filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana and his son, Folarin (aka Falz), against social critic Vincent Otse (Very Dark Man or VDM) was adjourned on November 14 due to incomplete court filings. The Lagos High Court in Ikeja rescheduled the hearing for January 23, 2025.
Earlier, on October 14, Justice Matthias Dawodu ruled on an ex-parte application by the Falanas, affirming their legal right to protection from slander. The court ordered VDM to remove a defamatory video posted on September 24, which allegedly targeted the Falanas. It also barred him from publishing any further defamatory content about them on social media.
Additionally, the court instructed that all court documents be served on VDM through his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
The Falanas are suing VDM for N500 million each in damages, accusing him of spreading false claims that they took N10 million from Bobrisky (Idris Okuneye) to corrupt the justice process. They argue that VDM’s unverified statements are damaging their reputations, especially as the video continues to circulate online.
In response, VDM has sought permission from the court to appeal the ruling.
