Italian football club Roma has reappointed Claudio Ranieri as head coach for a third stint.
The club confirmed the appointment on Thursday, announcing that Ranieri will assume a “senior executive role” at the end of the 2024/25 season, where he will advise ownership on all sporting decisions and contribute to the selection of the next head coach. A club statement read: “After the season, Claudio will transition into a senior executive position, offering guidance on all sporting matters. The search for the next manager will begin in the coming months.”
At 73, Ranieri is best known for leading Leicester City to their historic Premier League title in the 2015/16 season—their first-ever league title. He also had previous managerial stints with Chelsea and Roma, first managing the Giallorossi in the early 2000s before returning on a short-term basis in 2019.
Ranieri now faces the task of turning Roma’s fortunes around, with the club having won just three of their Serie A matches so far this season, leaving them off to a disappointing start. His appointment comes after the dismissal of Ivan Juric, who was let go after just 12 games. Juric had taken charge in September following the departure of Daniele De Rossi, who had briefly replaced José Mourinho earlier in the year.
