Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of all revenue collection activities across the state, including at motor parks and other locations, until further notice.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo instructed the State Commissioner of Police to apprehend anyone found collecting revenue on behalf of the government during this period.
The Governor explained that a review of the current revenue collection system would take place soon, with new directives to follow based on the findings.
“The suspension of revenue collection is effective immediately,” Okpebholo stated. “Anyone caught collecting revenue on behalf of the state will face arrest. The Commissioner of Police has been directed to enforce this order.”
Okpebholo reassured the public that he would address the concerns surrounding the revenue collection process and provide further guidance shortly. Until then, no individual or group is authorized to collect funds for the state government.
