President Bola Tinubu declared that Nigeria is moving away from the brink of economic collapse, with his administration driving reforms that aim to foster growth and development. Acknowledging the challenges faced before his presidency, he said these reforms are essential to securing the nation’s future.
Tinubu made these comments during the inauguration of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa on Tuesday in Benin. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu highlighted that Edo State has been central to national progress, with leadership focused on improving the lives of its people.
“When we took office, we knew the severity of the economy and committed to serious fiscal and monetary reforms. Today, we’re seeing the results of those efforts, including in Edo State, where leaders have shown a deep understanding of the people’s needs,” said Tinubu.
The president-elect stressed that effective governance transcends political parties. “A house divided cannot stand,” he said, underlining the need for unity and collaboration to improve governance. He praised the APC for its focus on serving the people and fostering peace.
Tinubu also addressed the importance of leadership in overcoming challenges. “The election is over, and those who seek to disrupt the people’s will must be removed,” he added. He expressed confidence in the nation’s recovery, saying, “We’ve emerged from the toughest times, and we’re now on the path to growth.”
On the inauguration, Tinubu emphasized the power of democracy, noting, “This is a victory for the entire state, not just individual leaders.” He expressed pride in the people’s choice and noted that the election of Okpebholo and Idahosa reflected the collective will of the people.
Tinubu spoke about the qualities of true leadership, pointing out that it’s not defined by challenges but by the courage to confront them. He urged unity in serving the people of Edo State, adding that leadership must focus on the common good of all citizens.
“This is the dawn of a new era for Edo,” Tinubu concluded, offering his full support for Okpebholo’s leadership. “He is committed to building a state where opportunities, education, and infrastructure are available to all. His vision will bring hope to every community.”
