US President-elect Donald Trump has named his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as his Chief of Staff, making her the first woman to hold this prestigious position in US history.
This announcement marks the beginning of several expected staffing decisions as Trump prepares for his return to the White House on January 20.
Describing Wiles as the “winning campaign manager,” Trump expressed pride in her appointment, stating, “It is an honor to have Susie as the first female Chief of Staff in U.S. history.” He went on to praise her qualities, calling her “tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected,” in a statement posted on his campaign’s social media platform, X.
The Chief of Staff is a crucial role, serving as the president’s gatekeeper, managing the White House staff, coordinating the president’s schedule, and acting as a liaison between the president and other government branches.
Trump credited Wiles for playing a key role in his successful campaign, saying, “She helped me secure one of the greatest political victories in American history.”
Vice President-elect JD Vance also reacted positively, tweeting, “This is great news. Susie was a major asset to President Trump during the campaign and will be invaluable in the White House.”
During his previous term, Trump cycled through four Chiefs of Staff, including retired Army General John Kelly, who later became a vocal critic and referred to Trump as a “fascist,” even backing Vice President Kamala Harris.
