Hezbollah has officially named Sheikh Naim Qassem as its new leader following the death of Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli strike last month.
Qassem, who has served as Nasrallah’s deputy for many years, has been acting leader since the attack. Hezbollah’s Shura Council confirmed his election, stating that the group will continue to uphold Nasrallah’s policies “until victory is achieved.”
The recent leadership change comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, raising fears of further instability in the region. There have been reports of multiple senior Hezbollah officials being killed in subsequent Israeli strikes around Beirut, but independent Iranian media have not confirmed Qassem’s current whereabouts.
