Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, the House of Representatives member for Aba North and South, has publicly apologized following an altercation with e-hailing driver Stephen Abuwatseya at his Abuja residence.
The incident, captured on video by Abuwatseya, gained significant attention online. In his apology, Ikwechegh acknowledged that his actions were unacceptable and expressed regret for the embarrassment caused to Abuwatseya, his constituents, and the public.
“I recognize the trust placed in me as a public servant and I fell short of the expected standards,” he stated. He confirmed his cooperation with the Nigerian Police in their investigation, emphasizing accountability.
Ikwechegh also announced plans to seek professional counseling and engage in community service to promote respect and understanding. He called on Nigerians to foster a culture of dignity and empathy, stating, “Together, we can build a society where everyone is treated with respect.”
