The Nigerian Government has given approval for the creation of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, located in Gwarinpa, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This new institution is part of the national strategy to advance technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education.
A letter, dated January 9, 2025, and addressed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed the decision. It aligns with the Federal Government’s objective to ensure every state in Nigeria is home to at least one federal polytechnic.
The letter was officially received by the office of the FCT Minister on January 16, 2025.
“In light of this, we kindly request Your Excellency to propose potential locations for both the temporary and permanent sites in Gwarinpa,” the letter stated.
Dr. Alausa further noted, “A technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will visit the sites to assess the proposed locations. Following their report, formal approval will be granted.”
He also mentioned, “At this stage, the Ministry is open to the takeover of existing tertiary institutions if the Minister deems it appropriate.”
The new polytechnic is expected to foster growth in the fields of technology, vocational skills, and entrepreneurship training.
