One year after the passing of former Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, his family gathered in Owo to celebrate his enduring legacy. Akeredolu passed away in Germany on December 26, 2023, after battling a prolonged illness.
At the memorial service held at The Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, Imola Owo, Revd. Stephen Fagbemi praised Akeredolu as an exceptional leader who championed integrity, justice, and the people’s welfare. He noted that if alive, Akeredolu would have spoken out against Nigeria’s current hardships, emphasizing the need for prioritizing security and sustainable agriculture.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, described Akeredolu as a courageous leader, highlighting his role in establishing the Amotekun Corps, a regional security outfit.
Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi lauded Akeredolu’s fearless stance on speaking truth to power, emphasizing his courage and compassion in governance.
Akeredolu’s first son, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Jnr, reflected on the year without his father, describing it as a time of emptiness and deep longing.
The event also featured the launch of a biography, The Life and Times of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, authored by Dr. Wale Okediran. Distinguished attendees included former Secretary to the State Government Oladunni Odu, Senator Adeniyi Adegbomire, and APC Chairman Ade Adetimehin.
