The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has unveiled a Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC), marking a significant step in Nigeria’s hydrocarbon operations.
Launched by NNPC’s Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), the PMCC is designed to monitor the country’s oil production, according to Chief Corporate Communications Officer Olufemi Soneye. This initiative builds on the success of the Command and Control Centre and aims to improve efficiency and boost production in line with President Bola Tinubu’s policy.
The PMCC acts as a central platform for tracking hydrocarbons from production to export terminals, covering Joint Ventures (JVs) and Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs). By integrating real-time data from various operators, it offers a comprehensive view of production activities, allowing for timely detection of issues, minimizing disruptions, and ensuring smooth operations.
With advanced analytics and data integration, the PMCC provides actionable insights, supporting better decision-making, resource management, and risk mitigation, thereby helping operators meet production targets and maintain high standards.
A key feature of the PMCC is its focus on predictive and preventive maintenance, ensuring the reliability of equipment and extending asset lifecycles. It also fosters collaboration by offering a secure platform for data exchange, promoting problem-solving and continuous improvement across the sector.
By minimizing downtime and optimizing maintenance, the PMCC contributes to higher production and increased revenue. Under Mele Kyari’s leadership, NNPC has raised its production to 1.8 million barrels per day (bpd) and aims for 2 million bpd. The PMCC is crucial to achieving this target, driving operational efficiency and boosting production capabilities.
The centre operates around the clock, staffed by trained professionals, and uses cloud-based solutions for smooth data exchange with both internal and external stakeholders. It also strengthens security by connecting with the Industry-Wide Security Command and Control Centre.
As NNPC continues to modernize, the PMCC underscores its commitment to innovation and excellence, advancing Nigeria’s position in the global energy market while ensuring sustainable growth and profitability.
