Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has affirmed that he does not regret his decision to support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.
Before his appointment as the FCT Minister, Wike served for eight years as the governor of Rivers State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Following this, he was invited by President Tinubu to join the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government.
Speaking at a thanksgiving event organized by the PDP in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Wike expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for his trust in him. He reflected on the challenges he faced, including threats prior to the election due to his support for Tinubu, and reiterated that he would make the same choice again if given the chance.
“I have no regrets, and I make no apologies. If the opportunity arises again, I will do the same thing,” he declared.
Addressing Land Grabbing Allegations
Wike also responded to accusations of land grabbing made against him by some residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He dismissed the claims, stressing that those occupying government land must adhere to the law, or risk losing their properties.
Referring to the land grabbing allegations as absurd, he questioned, “How can I be accused of grabbing land that I am responsible for?” He further emphasized the importance of proper governance and transparency, thanking President Tinubu for his leadership and the opportunity to oversee land management in Abuja.
Wike noted that managing land in the capital meant dealing with all Nigerians, and assured that no matter the criticism or allegations against him, the right actions would always be taken.
