The Kwara State Police Command has arrested Mohammed Bello, a notorious interstate kidnapper known as Dandolo, in Patigi Local Government Area on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
Police spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, revealed on Thursday, December 12, that the arrest followed actionable intelligence from Egbe, Kogi State.
Bello is believed to be behind numerous kidnappings in Kwara, Kogi, and along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The Kwara State Police, under CP Victor Olaiya, successfully arrested the notorious kidnapper, Mohammed Bello, aka ‘Dandolo,’ after receiving credible intelligence from Egbe, Kogi State, indicating he had fled to Patigi,” the statement read.
Bello is suspected of involvement in several kidnappings in Kogi’s Egbe, Isanlu, and surrounding areas. Upon receiving the tip, the police deployed a surveillance team, conducting thorough searches in Patigi, including hotels, leading to his capture.
This operation was supported by the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Egbe, Kogi, under Lieutenant Isah.
Bello has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin for further investigation.
CP Olaiya assured a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice.
“The Command remains dedicated to the safety of residents in Kwara State and its surroundings,” the statement added. The Police also thanked the public and security partners for their swift action.
Bello has confessed to multiple kidnappings along the Omu-Aran-Ilofa-Osi-Eruku-Egbe road in Kwara and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“We urge citizens to continue sharing timely information to help combat crime,” the police concluded.
