Two siblings, Loveth Charles, 9, and Solomon Charles, 6, tragically passed away after consuming a meal made from cassava in Abuja. The incident occurred on Thursday, December 5, in the Jiwa community within the Federal Capital Territory.
A local resident informed Abuja Metro that the children’s mother, Blessing Charles, and their youngest sibling, who also ate the meal, were rushed to Kubwa General Hospital. The mother and the surviving child were reportedly discharged on Friday.
According to another community member, the cassava was provided by a female farmer from Delta State, who is also from the same area as the victim’s mother. The farmer had stored the cassava near her home, not realizing that some of it had been used by the family to prepare food.
The woman, who had intended to use the cassava to make “apu” for sale, has since been arrested by police from the Gwagwa division. Meanwhile, the bodies of the two deceased children have been taken to the Kubwa General Hospital by the authorities.
CSP Muktar Adamu, the Divisional Police Officer of Gwagwa division, confirmed the tragic incident.
