As discussions surrounding the tax reform bills continue, former APC presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has addressed an open letter to the governors of Northern Nigeria, urging them to take proactive steps in improving the region’s economic outlook.
In his letter, Garba advised the governors to shift focus towards sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing to boost internally generated revenue (IGR), rather than investing heavily in large infrastructure projects like airports and dry-land bridges, which may not yield immediate economic returns. He emphasized that such investments in farms and factories have the potential to create jobs, stimulate local economies, and improve the region’s overall financial sustainability.
Garba further argued that, regardless of whether the tax bills are passed, the ongoing debate has uncovered significant deficiencies and economic shortcomings in the Northern region. He called for a strategic reevaluation of the region’s economic priorities, urging governors to take advantage of the opportunity to address these issues and ensure sustainable growth moving forward.
