Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been selected as one of the five finalists for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the top nominees for this prestigious accolade in a tweet on the evening of December 4. Nnadozie is the sole Nigerian player among the final five, as Raheedat Ajibade did not make the cut, despite being listed in the original top 10.
The other finalists include Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Barbara Banda, and Sanaâ Mssoudy.
This year’s award will see a new winner, breaking Asisat Oshoala’s six-year streak, as the Super Falcons forward had claimed the title for the past three editions, and a total of six times since 2018. Nnadozie is also in the running for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, which she won in 2023.
Additionally, Falconets’ Chiamaka Okuchukwu is among the leading contenders for the Best Young Player award.
For Coach of the Year, Chris Danjuma of the Falconets joins the final list, ahead of Nigerian colleagues Bankole Olowookere of Flamingos and Moses Adukwu of Edo Queens, who were initially nominated.
The Super Falcons are also nominated for National Team of the Year, while Edo Queens are contenders for Club of the Year.
