The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the tragic killing of a farmer, Sikiru Onaolapo.
Onaolapo was shot dead while working on his farm in the Oke Ekutu area, a disputed settlement situated between the Ilobu and Ifon-Orolu communities.
Tensions in Ilobu heightened on Tuesday after the deceased’s body was brought to the entrance of the Olobu of Ilobu’s palace in a vehicle, sparking outrage among local residents.
Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the police command, confirmed the arrest and assured the public that measures were being taken to maintain order. She revealed that additional personnel, including a tactical team, had been deployed to both Ifon and Ilobu to prevent further unrest. The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Abba, has also been holding meetings with leaders of both communities to ease tensions.
While Opalola confirmed that one suspect is in custody, she did not disclose their identity. She emphasized that investigations are ongoing and promised that justice will be served.
“We remain dedicated to uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable,” Opalola said. “We urge the public to stay calm and law-abiding as we continue to investigate this matter.”
