A devastating auto crash on the Baimari–Geidam Road in Yobe has claimed the lives of at least 12 people. The fatal incident occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, around 10:00 PM when a Howo truck collided with a bus registered as BAU 124 YF, near Chelluri village.
Livinus Yilzoom, the Sector Commander for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Yobe, confirmed the tragic accident in a statement released on Wednesday, December 4. According to Yilzoom, the crash resulted in the bus catching fire, leading to the deaths of all 12 passengers onboard.
Preliminary investigations point to road obstruction caused by the Howo truck as the immediate cause of the crash, with excessive speed and an overloaded bus contributing to the fatal accident. Yilzoom also issued a public safety warning, urging motorists to avoid night travel, particularly during the harmattan season, due to the increased risk of accidents caused by poor visibility.
