Several residents have been hospitalized across various facilities after participating in a free medical outreach in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Ogbonnaya Uche, confirmed the incident in a statement issued from Umuahia. He explained that the hospitalizations were likely caused by adverse reactions to medications distributed during the outreach. Uche reassured the public that healthcare professionals are working tirelessly to stabilize and treat those affected.
“The ministry is deeply concerned about the outcome of this unauthorized outreach. We urge residents to be cautious when engaging with organizers of unapproved medical events,” the commissioner said.
The statement further revealed that the outreach organizers had not obtained the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Health. As a result, the Ministry issued a warning against unapproved medical programs, stating that any future unauthorized events would be subject to legal action.
The Abia State Ministry of Health has initiated an investigation into the incident.
