The Ebonyi State government has approved the privatization of its state-owned radio and television stations, EBBC, which will now operate as an independent entity.
This decision was announced in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpo, following Monday’s executive council meeting. Okpo revealed that EBBC will be transformed into a Public Liability Company, officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
He explained that the government’s goal is to enhance the corporation’s productivity while increasing the financial returns for the state. This initiative will also apply to the Ebonyi State Newspapers and Publishing Corporation, Nigerian Patriot.
The commissioner reassured that this restructuring is not aimed at downsizing staff but at transforming the media organizations into fully independent, business-driven, and self-sustaining operations.
