The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnap attempt, rescuing 14 passengers in Dan’arau village, Magama-Jibia, Jibia Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the operation took place on November 25, 2024, with one of the rescued victims tragically dying from injuries while receiving medical care.
On November 24, 2024, at around 7:55 PM, armed bandits attacked two commercial vehicles on Magama-Jibia road, shooting sporadically as they attempted to abduct the passengers.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia responded quickly, leading a team of officers to the scene. They engaged the attackers in a fierce gunfight, successfully foiling the kidnapping and rescuing 14 individuals. Two of the victims suffered gunshot wounds and were rushed to a hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, one later died from his injuries.
The police are continuing their efforts to capture the fleeing bandits, and investigations are underway.
The State Commissioner of Police praised the officers for their bravery and commitment, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
