Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, has pointed to President Bola Tinubu as the root cause of the ongoing crisis within the opposition party.
In an interview with Channels TV on November 20, Sowunmi criticized Tinubu for appointing Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) without consulting PDP’s elders. He argued that such decisions should have involved dialogue with the party’s leadership to avoid further complications.
Sowunmi suggested that if Tinubu removed Wike from the ministerial position and returned him to the PDP, the party would regain its strength and momentum. “President Tinubu is the source of PDP’s current predicament. He had no business taking Wike from our party and appointing him Minister without prior consultation. When Obasanjo formed his national unity government, he engaged the elders of his party. But Tinubu bypassed this process, creating a mess. If Tinubu wants peace and stability, he should remove Wike from the cabinet and bring him back to PDP. This will restore the party’s focus and power,” Sowunmi concluded.
