Gunmen have killed Anambra-born, Port Harcourt-based architect, Engr. Asomba Andrew Egbuonu, just four days before the burial of his late mother.
Egbuonu, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (FNIA), passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from complications after sustaining gunshot wounds. He was attacked by unidentified gunmen near his hometown of Nnewi, Anambra State.
The General Secretary of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Chike Chamberlain Ibeanu, confirmed the tragic news, stating that Egbuonu was preparing for his mother’s burial on Thursday, November 21, when the incident occurred.
“With a heavy heart, I announce the death of our colleague, Arc. Asomba Andrew Egbuonu FNIA, KSJ,” the statement read. “He died on November 17, 2024, after being attacked by gunmen near Nnewi, as he was heading home to finalize burial arrangements.”
At the time of his death, Egbuonu was serving as Chair of the Architectural Exhibitions and Competitions Committee of the NIA and was a former Chair of the NIA Rivers State Chapter.
The NIA asked for prayers for his soul and strength for his family during this difficult time.
