A fire broke out on Thursday in a seven-storey commercial building in the Iddo area of Lagos Island. According to Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire began around 10 am.
The blaze started in the archival room on the first floor of the building, which hosts various businesses including commercial banks and a bottling company. Adeseye confirmed the fire occurred at the AG Leventis building, also known as Iddo House, located near Oyingbo.
She said, “The fire on the first floor of the seven-storey AG Leventis building, home to Nigeria Bottling Company PLC, was reported at 10:22 am and successfully extinguished by teams from the Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations.”
The fire was caused by rising temperatures in the archival room, but thankfully, there were no casualties. Investigations are still underway, though preliminary findings suggest self-ignition due to the heat in the confined space.
Adeseye emphasized that the situation was brought under control, and no injuries were reported.
