The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has strongly condemned calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), particularly by political figures like Peter Obi. The group accuses IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), of violent attacks that have killed 175 security personnel and destroyed public infrastructure.
CNG criticized Kanu’s conduct in court, claiming he insulted the prosecuting lawyer and undermined the judiciary. The group believes Kanu’s rhetoric incites violence and threatens national unity, calling for justice to be served.
The coalition also condemned Obi for prioritizing ethnic interests over national security by advocating for Kanu’s release. They warned northern voters against supporting any politician linked to IPOB, as such alliances overlook the harm caused by the group’s actions.
CNG reiterated its call for peaceful separation and urged the government to resist releasing Kanu, warning that doing so would embolden separatists and destabilize Nigeria. They further stated that any Igbo leader pushing for Kanu’s unconditional release should be considered complicit and labeled a terrorist.
