A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer has reportedly been shot and injured by an individual in police attire during an enforcement operation in Lagos.
The incident is said to have occurred as part of the nationwide launch of an FRSC initiative aimed at cracking down on fake number plates under the Lagos Sector Command.
According to Channel TV, the enforcement team was conducting routine checks when the shooting took place.
Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, who was overseeing the operation, refrained from offering further details about the incident. He called on the media to be patient as investigations are carried out.
Authorities have yet to confirm if the assailant is a member of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and no official statement has been released by the police in Lagos regarding the matter.
As a result of the shooting, the Lagos State FRSC has paused the crackdown on fake number plates. Commander Hamzat explained to journalists on Thursday that the suspension was deemed necessary due to the unfortunate event.
