Vice President Kashim Shettima playfully warned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to brace for more political barbs as the 2027 elections draw closer.
Speaking at a symposium in Abuja celebrating the 60th birthday of former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, Shettima expressed his respect for Atiku but humorously hinted that the upcoming election cycle would bring even more pointed remarks toward the former vice president.
Shettima acknowledged Atiku’s graceful handling of past criticisms, recalling their interactions during the 2023 presidential election. He referred to himself as an “adjunct provocateur,” noting he had aimed some sharp “shots” at Atiku during that period.
While Shettima shared that he affectionately calls Atiku “Baba” in private—an informal term meaning father—he made it clear he wouldn’t hold back in 2027.
The light-hearted comment was met with laughter from the crowd, and even Atiku smiled at the remark.
Despite the playful banter, Shettima stressed the importance of unity among Nigerian leaders, urging collaboration across political lines to secure the country’s future.
