AFD Praises Progress on Lagos Transport Hubs Project
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has initiated stakeholder engagement meetings ahead of the scoping activities for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Purple Line project.
On Tuesday, LAMATA officials visited Ikeja, Agege, and Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to begin discussions with local stakeholders.
During the visit, local council officials voiced their support for the project. Ikeja Local Council Chairman, Dr. Balogun Mojeed, reaffirmed his commitment, highlighting the project’s potential to enhance residents’ lives and support the city’s growth into a smart city.
In Agege, Rasheed Adaranijo, standing in for Chairman Kola Egunjobi, assured LAMATA of their full backing. Similarly, David Odunmbaku of Ojodu LCDA praised the governor for pursuing such transformative projects, emphasizing the critical need for an intermodal transport system in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) commended the progress of the transport interchange projects funded by both the Lagos State Government and AFD. A team led by Country Director Xavier Muron recently inspected the Marina and Mile 2 interchange hubs, allowing new project lead Anne Chaussavoine to see firsthand the developments in Lagos’ transport infrastructure.
Chaussavoine expressed confidence in the project’s impact on Lagos residents, while outgoing team lead David Margonsztern praised the progress and expressed his eagerness to witness the realization of the integrated multimodal transport system.
