The All Progressives Congress (APC) has linked the “catastrophic disintegration” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the political desperation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
APC spokesperson, Felix Morka, accused Atiku of fueling the dysfunction of opposition parties in Nigeria, following Atiku’s claim that the APC, led by President Bola Tinubu, had paid N50 million to opposition leaders.
Morka reminded Atiku of the PDP’s troubled elections during his tenure as Vice President, particularly the controversial elections of 2003 and 2007, where the PDP was accused of heavy-handed tactics in the South-West and a “do or die” approach to elections.
In his statement, Morka refuted Atiku’s claims, saying: “Atiku’s tenure as Vice President saw the worst elections in Nigeria’s history, and now he questions the democracy that has since improved. Alleging that the APC is paying opposition figures N50 million is baseless and ridiculous. His political desperation is the real cause of PDP’s current downfall.”
Morka also addressed Atiku’s concerns about judicial involvement in electoral matters, stating that the judiciary’s powers were constitutionally defined and legitimate. He concluded by emphasizing that spreading unproven allegations was unworthy of a former Vice President and seasoned politician like Atiku.
