
A suspected attack by internet fraudsters, known as Yahoo boys, led to the death of an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officer and left another seriously wounded in Onitsha, Anambra State, reports News360 Nigeria.
The incident occurred Friday morning when EFCC operatives from the Enugu zonal office attempted to arrest cybercrime suspects. The slain officer, an assistant superintendent who had recently passed a promotion exam, was killed in the operation, while his colleague sustained severe injuries in the ambush.
Anambra State Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the event, stating that an investigation is underway.
“An investigation is ongoing. The suspect is in custody, and the firearm has been recovered. More details will be provided,” Ikenga said.
