The Federal Ministry of Power is set to allocate N8 billion for a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging Nigerians to pay their electricity bills promptly in 2025.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, during a budget defense session with the National Assembly’s joint committee on power on Monday, January 13.
Adelabu explained that the campaign would utilize a range of platforms, including social media, digital channels, and print media, to reach a broad audience. He emphasized the importance of educating Nigerians on the significance of the power sector as a vital national resource that requires protection.
“As a nation of over 200 million people, we must ensure that our message reaches every corner of the country, using all available channels such as social media, digital platforms, and print media. We are allocating N8 billion for this purpose,” Adelabu stated.
The Minister further highlighted the need for a re-orientation, stressing that Nigerians must understand that the nation’s power assets belong to everyone and should be treated as such. He also called for heightened awareness about the importance of avoiding power theft and the responsibility of regularly paying electricity bills.
“Our citizens need to be re-educated about the significance of our power assets and their role in protecting them. They must understand the importance of paying their bills on time and reporting any power theft they witness. This advocacy and educational effort is crucial for the growth of the power sector,” Adelabu added.
