The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili for backing current Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This followed Odili’s comment accusing Wike of attempting to turn Rivers State into his personal estate.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving Service organized by factional Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Wike labeled Odili as a “rent seeker” and “ingrate.” He accused Odili of benefiting from political appointments for family members and turning Rivers into his private domain.
Recalling his contributions to Odili’s political revival, Wike said, “When I became governor in 2015, I brought him back to life politically.” He claimed Odili once praised him as surpassing all past governors, only to now hail Fubara, who has spent less than a year in office, as the best.
Wike criticized Odili’s inconsistency and lack of significant achievements during his eight-year tenure, accusing him of failing in his presidential bid and opposing Fubara’s emergence as governor. “What elder talks like this? Odili is now a laughing stock, organizing events for a governor he once opposed,” Wike remarked.
He concluded by asserting that Odili had diminished his stature through his actions and statements.
