The Federal Government has officially announced Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, as public holidays for Christmas and Boxing Day, followed by Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for the New Year celebration.
In a statement issued on Monday morning, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended festive greetings to all Nigerians, urging them to embrace the values of love, peace, and unity that define the season.
Tunji-Ojo, in the statement signed by the Ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, highlighted the importance of the festive season as a time to promote harmony, strengthen family and community bonds, and reflect on the year gone by.
The Minister also sent special greetings to Christians and Nigerians both at home and abroad, encouraging them to emulate the humility, service, compassion, and patience exemplified by Jesus Christ.
Emphasizing that peace and security are essential for the nation’s progress, Tunji-Ojo reassured Nigerians of the government’s ongoing efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership to ensure the safety of lives and property.
He urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the relevant security authorities, emphasizing that the holiday season requires discipline to maintain safety in communities across the country.
Tunji-Ojo also reminded Nigerians to remain optimistic that 2025 will bring improvements, with the President’s Renewed Hope agenda leading to a more prosperous nation.
“The Christmas season offers a moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal,” the Minister said. “As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, let’s embrace kindness and extend goodwill, no matter our differences.”
He expressed confidence in the federal government’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity for all, wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025.
