The Ogun State Police have taken a 65-year-old man, Olalekan Ogunjobi, into custody in connection with the death of a woman in his apartment.
Reports indicate that the deceased, identified as 60-year-old Serifatu Disu, had left her husband’s home to visit Ogunjobi at his residence in Fatima Castle, Konigba, in the Ago-Iwoye area.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to Punch on Thursday, December 19, 2024. According to Odutola, Disu complained of chest pains around 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday and collapsed shortly after stepping outside of the apartment.
Despite Ogunjobi’s attempts to perform first aid, Disu lost consciousness and died shortly thereafter. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ago-Iwoye was promptly informed and arrived at the scene to investigate the matter.
“Ogunjobi, a 65-year-old man from Fatima Castle, Konigba, told us that his friend, 60-year-old Serifatu Disu, had visited him late at night after leaving her husband’s home,” Odutola explained. “Around 12:40 a.m., she began experiencing chest pains, and shortly after stepping outside, she collapsed and lost consciousness.”
Despite efforts to revive her, she could not be saved. The police have launched a preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, and Ogunjobi is currently being questioned.
The woman’s body has been removed and taken to the Ijebu-Ode Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy, Odutola confirmed.
“We have secured the scene and the body has been transported to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for a post-mortem examination. We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses,” she added.
