The Edwin Woko-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has hit back at All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, who recently expressed the party’s goal of winning the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.
At the inauguration of the Tony Okocha-led APC state executive in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Ganduje stated that securing Rivers State’s Government House is a key focus for the APC in 2027. In response, Edwin Woko firmly dismissed Ganduje’s statement, asserting there is “no vacancy” in Rivers State for 2027.
He added:
“The people of Rivers State will leave no stone unturned to ensure that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s second-term bid is unimpeded.”
Woko emphasized that the people of Rivers had rejected the APC, and would continue to do so due to its unfriendly policies.
“Governor Fubara will contest the 2027 election under the PDP banner, despite the challenges and disunity caused by some political opportunists who have infiltrated our party. These agents of the APC will soon be a thing of the past,” he declared.
He also stated that the democratic violations seen during the last Edo State election would not be repeated in Rivers, as elections must be decided by voting, not through manipulation or by exploiting security forces as Ganduje’s APC may attempt.
