The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a N500 million bail for Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State.
On Friday, Justice Emeka Nwite presided over the case, ruling that Bello must provide two sureties who must also meet specific bail conditions. The sureties are required to submit an affidavit of means and possess verifiable property in Abuja. The title documents for these properties will be reviewed by the court’s Deputy Chief Registrar.
Bello is facing a 19-count charge related to alleged money laundering totaling N80 billion, a case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
During the hearing, EFCC counsel Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, announced the withdrawal of a previous motion to reschedule the arraignment. The defense, led by Joseph Daudu, SAN, did not object, and Justice Nwite subsequently granted the request, dismissing the motion.
