Arsenal Fan Killed Celebrating Win Over Manchester United in UgandaAn Arsenal fan in Uganda was tragically shot dead while celebrating his team’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Wednesday, December 4.
John Ssenyonga’s death was confirmed on Thursday, December 5, in a BBC News report, which stated that he was shot by a security guard. Another fan was injured when the guard opened fire on a crowd of celebrating supporters at a restaurant in Lukaya, about 100km (62 miles) from Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
The incident occurred near the end of the match, with a local journalist telling BBC that the restaurant manager became upset by the noise and asked the guard to intervene. Despite warnings, the fans continued celebrating loudly, and witnesses reported that the manager turned off the power in the building, further enraging the crowd.
The guard then allegedly fired several shots, fatally wounding Ssenyonga, 30, while another long-time Arsenal supporter, Lawrence Mugejera, was hospitalized with injuries.
Both the guard and the restaurant manager fled the scene, and police are searching for them. Regional police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed the recovery of a gun at the scene and condemned the incident. He urged anyone with information to help authorities and advised fans to manage their celebrations responsibly.
