Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has raised concerns that certain individuals are profiting from the Boko Haram insurgency and have no interest in seeing it come to an end.
In a recent interview with BBC Hausa, the governor explained that there are people benefiting from the violence and instability in the Northeast region and neighboring Chad, and these individuals are actively undermining efforts to bring an end to the insurgency. He stated, “There are people who do not want this insecurity to end because it would negatively impact their personal interests.”
While the governor acknowledged that there has been some progress in the fight against Boko Haram, he expressed concern over the resurgence of insurgents who have been pushed out of Chad, now returning to the region. Governor Zulum emphasized the need for greater unity and public support for security forces in order to effectively combat the Boko Haram threat and restore peace.
However, the governor did not specifically name the individuals or groups who are believed to be profiting from the ongoing conflict in the region.
