John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest man, has passed away at the age of 112, according to Guinness World Records. Born in Liverpool, England, on August 26, 1912, he was a lifelong fan of Liverpool FC, which he supported since its founding 20 years before his birth.
Tinniswood died on Monday, November 25, at a care home in Southport. His family shared that his final day was filled with music and love. They expressed gratitude to those who cared for him, including the staff at Hollies Care Home and the NHS professionals.
In April 2024, at age 111, Tinniswood became the world’s oldest living man after the death of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Perez from Venezuela. Tinniswood often attributed his longevity to moderation in all aspects of life. He advised that “too much of anything” would eventually lead to suffering.
Asked about the secret to his long life on his 112th birthday, Tinniswood humbly stated it was “just luck,” acknowledging his active youth but admitting he had no special formula for longevity.
He met his wife, Blodwen, at a dance in Liverpool, and they shared 44 years together before her passing in 1986. Tinniswood is survived by his daughter Susan, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, making him the fourth-oldest British man in recorded history.
His family described him as intelligent, brave, calm under pressure, and a talented conversationalist. Tinniswood moved to Hollies Care Home just before his 100th birthday, where he became an inspiration to staff and fellow residents with his kindness and enthusiasm for life.
