NNPC Ltd. Launches Port Harcourt Refinery as Product Trucking Begins
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has successfully restarted operations at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC), marking the beginning of crude oil processing and the delivery of refined petroleum products into the market.
On Tuesday, trucks began loading various petroleum products, including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Household Kerosene (HHK). Additional products will also be dispatched. During the ceremony in Port Harcourt, Group CEO, Mr. Mele Kyari, hailed the start of the loadout activities as a major milestone for Nigeria, signaling a new era of energy independence and economic progress.
Kyari expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast support of the refinery’s rehabilitation and his commitment to the country’s energy security. He also thanked the NNPC Ltd. Board and staff for their dedication, as well as the contractors for overcoming various challenges to complete the refinery.
The GCEO further acknowledged Nigerians for their patience and trust, emphasizing the company’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate other refineries.
In his remarks, Mr. Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream & Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), congratulated NNPC Ltd. on this achievement and reaffirmed his agency’s continued support for the completion of the rehabilitation of other refineries.
The PHRC rehabilitation project, a comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation & Commissioning (EPCIC) initiative, has achieved over 16 million manhours without any Loss Time Injury (LTI).
