Tennis legend Novak Djokovic has revealed that former rival Andy Murray will join his coaching team for the upcoming offseason and the Australian Open.
Murray, who retired following the 2024 Olympic Games, will now collaborate with his longtime competitor in a coaching capacity. Djokovic reflected on their long history, saying, “We’ve been rivals since we were kids, pushing each other to our limits for over 25 years. We’ve had some of the most iconic battles in tennis.”
Describing their journey, Djokovic continued, “We were known as game changers and history makers. I thought our story was finished, but it turns out there’s one last chapter. It’s time for one of my fiercest competitors to join my team. Welcome aboard, Coach Andy Murray.”
With 24 Grand Slam titles under his belt, Djokovic is aiming to add a 25th at the Australian Open in January, and hopes Murray’s guidance will help him achieve this historic feat.
“I’m thrilled to have one of my greatest rivals as my coach,” Djokovic stated. “I’m excited to start the season and compete in Australia with Andy, with whom I’ve shared many memorable moments on the court.”
Murray expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m looking forward to helping Novak prepare for the Australian Open and being on the same side of the net as him for a change.”
The former world number one enjoyed a stellar playing career, securing three Grand Slam titles and two Olympic gold medals.
