A farmer, identified as Adegoke, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police for allegedly killing two suspected thieves on his farm in Mile 10, Oniseere ward, Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area.
Adegoke is accused of beating the suspects to death after they allegedly stole farm produce and his motorcycle. He claimed that the thieves, including the deceased and others from a nearby community, had been stealing from his farm for some time.
Reports say that on the day of the incident, Adegoke found more people on his farm and fought with them, resulting in two deaths and others injured. The stolen items previously included cocoa, kola nuts, plantains, and his motorcycle.
Tension has since escalated in the area, with locals fearing reprisal attacks from the Aba Tundun community, from where the suspected thieves are believed to have come. Some residents have already fled Mile 10 due to the unrest.
Funmilayo Odunlami, spokesperson for the police, confirmed Adegoke’s arrest and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
