NAFDAC’s Investigation & Enforcement Directorate has uncovered a fraudulent operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex, where both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were being revalidated for resale by tampering with their expiration dates.
During the operation, two individuals were apprehended for removing expired labels and substituting them with counterfeit date markings. Authorities seized newly printed labels, date-marking equipment, and discarded expired labels. The premises was shut down, and the beverages were confiscated. The store owner, who is the prime suspect, was arrested for further questioning.
In a statement, NAFDAC urged consumers to be vigilant while shopping, particularly during the festive season, and to report any suspicious activity to their local NAFDAC office.
