YouTuber Jake Paul and boxing icon Mike Tyson have both been officially suspended from boxing following their highly anticipated Netflix superfight.
The two squared off in a record-breaking event on Friday, November 15, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in front of 70,000 fans. Paul claimed victory with an unanimous decision after the eight-round fight went the full distance, improving his professional boxing record to 11-1. Tyson, who hadn’t fought since a 2005 loss to Kevin McBride, suffered a setback in his return to the ring.
While Paul continues to engage in online spats with various fighters ahead of his next bout, both he and Tyson are facing a mandatory suspension before returning to the ring. According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), both fighters have been given the minimum suspension period, which is 24 days. The regulation requires fighters to rest for three days per round fought, and since they completed eight rounds, the suspension is standard.
Both fighters have the option to appeal the suspension, with the opportunity to request a hearing to prove their fitness. The TDLR regulations state that a medical suspension is in place for the safety of the fighters and may be imposed based on a ringside physician’s recommendation. If a fighter disagrees with the suspension, they can request a hearing to contest the decision and show proof of their physical readiness to return to the ring.
