Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has filed an appeal against a court order that barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing monthly allocations to the state.
POLITICS NIGERIA previously reported that the Nigerian government confirmed it had halted the October Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to Rivers State.
Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, stated that the payment suspension followed a court ruling.
Fubara’s legal team, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Yusuf Ali, has filed a motion at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, seeking to reverse the decision.
The court order, issued by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court on October 30, came after a lawsuit filed by a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Hon. Martins Amaewhule. The lawsuit sought to prevent CBN from disbursing funds, citing Fubara’s failure to present the 2024 Appropriation Bill as ordered by the court.
Governor Fubara, however, contends that the Amaewhule-led faction is no longer legitimate after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara’s appeal, CA/ABJ/CV/1303/2024, was filed alongside five other appeals related to the case.
The ruling date will be announced later.
