Pep Guardiola has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Manchester City, which includes an option for an additional year.
The 53-year-old’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of this season, and there had been uncertainty about his future at the club in recent months.
Guardiola is now set to end speculation by committing to a new deal that will run until 2026, with the possibility of extending until 2027.
This news, first reported by The Athletic’s Sam Lee, is a major boost for City and a setback for their rivals.
Guardiola’s new contract will take him into his tenth year at the club if fully extended. There had been suggestions he might leave at the end of the season, alongside director of football Txiki Begiristain, whose departure was confirmed in October.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the deal, stating: “Pep Guardiola has agreed to stay at Manchester City for one more season, with an option to extend until June 2026. City was always confident about keeping him and never spoke to other managers.”
