A Florida-based cruise company, Villa Vie Residences, is offering Americans a four-year getaway to avoid President-elect Donald Trump’s second term in office. The company recently launched its Tour La Vie program, which lets passengers spend up to four years visiting over 140 countries while steering clear of the United States.
The program includes several extended cruise options, such as the one-year “Escape from Reality,” the two-year “Mid-Term Selection,” the three-year “Everywhere but Home,” and the four-year “Skip Forward” trip.
CEO Mikael Petterson explained to Newsweek that the idea was conceived before the 2020 election, acknowledging that regardless of the outcome, the country would be divided.“We don’t have a political stance; we just wanted to provide an option for those who feel threatened and need a way out,” Petterson said.
Prices for the Tour La Vie start at just under $40,000 per year, with full four-year single-occupancy cabins priced from $256,000 and double-occupancy cabins reaching $320,000. The package includes all food and drinks, Wi-Fi, medical visits, weekly housekeeping, and bi-weekly laundry services. Alcohol is included at dinner but not throughout the day.
Passengers will enjoy a month in the Caribbean, followed by a four-month South American journey that includes two Panama Canal transits, visits to two World Wonders, the Chilean Fjords, an Antarctic sail-by, Rio’s Carnival, and an eight-day exploration of the Amazon River.
Petterson shared that interest in the cruise has surged since the November 7 announcement. For those on board during the 2026 midterm and 2028 presidential elections, travelers will still be able to vote by mailing their ballots to the cruise line’s corporate office, which will forward them to the ship.
Despite the political undertones of the program, Petterson noted that the cruise community tends to avoid politics, as many passengers seek a peaceful escape from the tensions back home. “People aren’t there to talk politics; they just want to enjoy their time,” he said.
