A man from northern Nigeria has stated that only Islamic law can bring about change in Nigeria.
The Twitter user, @sarki_sultan, wrote: “Call me whatever you want, but only Islamic law can change this country.” According to his bio, he resides in the UK.
This comment comes amid widespread criticism following President Bola Tinubu’s attendance at the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, earlier this week. Many Nigerians are questioning whether the country is becoming an Islamic state.
The statement also comes shortly after the rejection of a bill in the House of Representatives that sought to make Sharia law more than just a personal matter in the Nigerian constitution. Lawmaker Bamidele Salam from Osun State opposed the bill, arguing that it could undermine Nigeria’s religious freedoms.
