Former Nigerian senator Ben Murray-Bruce has shared the story of how he was defrauded of $3.5 million by his South African business partner while attempting to acquire a cinema complex in Kenya.
Speaking at the 4th Peace Anyiam-Osigwe (PAO) Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference on Thursday, November 14, Murray-Bruce explained that after transferring the $3.5 million for the purchase, his partner registered the business in his own name, effectively stealing the investment.
He said: “I was approached to invest in a cinema complex in Kenya for $3.5 million. After I transferred the money, my South African partner registered the business in his name. That’s how I lost that substantial amount.”
Murray-Bruce also revealed that he is currently involved in a legal battle in Los Angeles with one of Hollywood’s top actors over a separate business dispute.
Discussing his future plans, the former lawmaker, who founded Silverbird Group, expressed his intention to revitalize the cinema industry in Nigeria by venturing into movie production.
“I have never ventured into filmmaking before, but now I am,” he said. “I’m working on a script, and I’m confident it will address important issues. The entertainment industry is highly successful, and we’re going to make it work.”
