Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has responded angrily to lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju’s criticism of the recent demolitions in Abuja. Adeyanju, alongside activist Vincent Martins Otse (also known as VeryDarkMan), led a protest against the FCT Minister’s handling of the demolition of Ruga, a settlement along Airport Road.
Adeyanju argued that there was “no justification” for the demolition and urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and take action, with protesters carrying placards demanding that Wike be dismissed for his role in the demolitions.
In a scathing interview, Wike dismissed Adeyanju’s opposition as personal and attention-seeking, suggesting it stemmed from Adeyanju’s failure to secure a position within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“I saw a young man named Adeyanju, from Kogi State. He came to me asking for the position of National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, but I rejected his request,” Wike said. “He didn’t get the position, and I have no regrets about that. Now, he has turned into a civil society activist. He has no job, which is why he’s doing this.”
Wike’s remarks highlight the growing tension between the two figures over the demolitions and Adeyanju’s activism.
